Citizens have gathered around the country to commemorate 24 months since the Hamas-initiated offensive on October 7th, 2023, as discussions advanced in the neighboring country over a conclusion to the hostilities in Gaza.

The incident saw more than 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the uniquely deadliest day for Jewish people since the World War II.

Israel answered by launching a military offensive in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, according to the territory's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its statistics are regarded as trustworthy by the United Nations and other global organizations.

"The bloodthirsty enemies have struck forcefully, but they have not broken us," the leader added on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "realize all the goals of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas government and the guarantee that Gaza will no longer pose a risk to Israel".

Commemorative Events Across Israel

The Israeli government rescheduled formal remembrance events until October 16th - after the conclusion of the festive season - but ceremonies still took place across the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the relatives of people who died in the Hamas attack was conducted in the coastal city. Arranged by the families themselves, it was televised across Israeli TV networks.

A period earlier, a silent tribute was respected throughout the country.

Peace Discussions in Egypt

Simultaneously, Israeli and Hamas negotiating teams gathered in the Egyptian coastal city of the negotiation venue for a follow-up session of indirect talks to discuss the provisions of the proposal.

A prominent Palestinian official knowledgeable about the discussions revealed that an late session of indirect talks began at 7 PM local time.

The representative explained the morning session ended without tangible results, amid conflicting views over the recommended Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not resume fighting after the first phase of the deal.

He added that the negotiations are "difficult and have still not deliver any real breakthrough," but pointed out that intermediaries are working hard to close the gaps between the conflicting groups.

Key Issues in Negotiations

  • An enduring halt to fighting
  • The trade of the prisoners still detained by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Measures for assistance distribution
  • After-conflict management of the territory

Public Feeling

In the city's public square previously, 29-year-old a woman - whose sibling endured the assault on the gathering, where 378 people were lost their lives and many more were abducted by Hamas militants - shared: "No place seems like home anymore and until all the hostages are released no one will be secure."

"After we see everybody home returned, we can breathe again. Then we can commence recover," she added.

Outside the leader's home in Jerusalem, people gathered to demonstrate their backing for the families of the captives. Israel says 48 stay in detention in Gaza, twenty of whom are believed to be surviving.

Activist a participant remarked: "We need do every compromise necessary for the abducted to come back home. But we sincerely need promises that we will be secure."

Surveys now consistently show that around 70% of Israelis desire the conflict to conclude in return for the liberation of the captives.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the location of the music event, those paying respects assembled to honor the dead.

From that location, the boom of military attacks and shelling could be noticed just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where observers reported the heavy Israeli attacks continued.

In the main city, attacks were noted in the early hours of that day in the western neighborhood, area and zone districts and in the east side area of that sector, as well the settlement to the north-west.

"Once the evening comes, the anxiety comes with it," displaced urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose young son was killed by an Israeli bombing last year, shared.

"Me and my three children are afraid of the air strikes. All the night we are lying together, holding each other, especially my little child who puts his face on me all night."

"Constantly we check the reports to see the situation. And I'm worried that this halt will not be achieved and that the fighting will return to us."

Medical Emergency

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area announced it had accepted the remains of six people by the daytime, including a trio who lost their lives in an Israeli bombing in the southern area.

A different healthcare center in the southern urban center of that area said additional dead people had been transported. An individual was died by Israeli troops while attempting to get aid to the southern area, health workers reported.
